Pay and Benefits

PAY AND BENEFITS 

Pay: We offer competitive pay and an excellent benefits package. See the chart below for our current pay scale. Entry level officers starting with the SCPD that have been a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Iowa or another state with equivalent training for at least 2 years OR have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college are entitled to start at Step 3.

Education pays! Officers with a bachelor’s degree also attain Master Police Officer pay after three years of service with the SCPD. Officers with at least 60 credit hours of college qualify for Master Police Officer after only 6 years of service.

All officers receive an additional $1,350 per year for uniform allowance and 1.50% of base pay for Taser certification, Bilingual officers will receive additional compensation of 1.50% of base pay. After 10 years of service officers will receive longevity pay.

Health Care: Our health and dental care plans are very affordable, and employees have an option to contribute to start a health savings account.

Retirement: In addition to the pension, you earn through our participation in Municipal Fire & Police Retirement System of Iowa, you can also contribute to a deferred contribution account with the City of Sioux City matching up to 2.75% of your scheduled annual pay.
